#OnThisDay in 1970, the first Boeing 747 widebody jumbojet operated by TWA (Trans World Airlines) departed from San Francisco International Airport for New York City. Just prior to the flight, an inaugural celebration was held to commemorate the momentous event. The Boeing 747-131, registration number N93104, was christened the "City of San Francisco" by diplomat and former child star, Shirley Temple Black.
