The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and the first person to fly solo from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California, she was born #onthisday in 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. Earhart teamed up with famed Pan American Airways navigator Fred Noonan to complete a flight around the world in 1937, during which they tragically disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
