On April 6, 1926, Walter T. Varney, a flight school and air taxi operator from San Francisco, launched his air mail service. In 1930, his company Varney Air Lines was acquired by United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, which became United Air Lines in 1934. In this photograph the founder of Varney Air Lines, Walter T.
