#Onthisday in 1927, Charles Lindbergh landed at Mills Field in his history-making Ryan NYP "Spirit of St. Louis." After completing the first solo transatlantic flight in May of that year, Lindbergh made stops at all 48 states. San Francisco celebrated the famous aviator by declaring the day “Lindbergh Day”, throwing a parade on Market Street, and hosting a reception at the Civic Center. Throughout this tour, people would mob Lindbergh and his plane, so a special enclosure was installed at Mills Field for his aircraft.
