#Onthisday in 1970, the first scheduled Pan American World Airways Boeing 747 wide-body jet took off from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 1:52AM. At the time of production, the Boeing 747 could carry 360-450 passengers, depending on seat configurations. It was also twice as big as the previous Boeing generation and 80% larger than the Douglas DC-8-63, the largest commercial aircraft at the time. This image was posted on January 22, 2016.
