#Onthisday in 1934, Pan American Airways received its first Sikorsky S-42. Its inaugural flight, commanded by Captain Edwin C. Musick, began in Miami, Florida, on August 16, followed the Latin America route, and arrived in Rio de Janiero on August 18, where it was christened the Brazilian Clipper by Darci Lima Sarmanho Vargas, the wife of Brazilian President GetĂșlio Dornelles Vargas.
