Like arrivals and departures, Riven/River’s two rectangular color fields complement each other. The energetic blue line that spans both fields suggests the traveler’s journey. The term “Riven” refers to Jim Melchert’s signature practice of breaking and then reassembling his tiles to create a complex pattern of cracks and fissures.
