According to this 1940s advertisement, Airlite Syracuse China, took 30 months of experimentation by American Airlines engineers and Syracuse China potters to create. The finished product was claimed to be the lightest, thinnest China mass produced for commercial usage. Lightweight creations such as this allowed carriers to maintain maximum passenger and freight loads, while maintaining the level of service their customers expected.
