On international flights, Pan American World Airways provided foreign language dictionaries to their passengers. These booklets provided "a summary of words and phrases you'll find most helpful to know on your present Clipper trip... You will find them easily committed to memory, but you may also keep the booklet for ready reference." Handy phrases to use at the airport, the market, and at the hotel were included in the booklet, along with everyday expressions and a pronunciation guide. These guides were useful for English, Spanish, and Portuguese speaking passengers and provided translations from English to Spanish or Portuguese, and from Spanish or Portuguese to English. - Pan American World Airways, English/Spanish dictionary c. 1950 SFO Museum Collection Gift of Jon E.
