In 1933, a British team led by RAF Lt. David McIntyre and Sir Douglas Douglas-Hamilton successfully flew two Westland biplanes over Mount Everest in the Himalayas. This first flyover of the world’s tallest mountain, at a staggering 29,029 feet, was later detailed in several books with spectacular photographs by Douglas-Hamilton and other expedition members, along with a feature-length documentary movie.
