As an artist, Raymond Saunders relies on his own keen observations and experiences: “The important thing about doing art is that I also live… and the more I bring into myself, the more I have a desire and need to translate it into something.” This work is representative of the artist’s dramatic use of color, gestural strokes, elegant line, and the collaged remnants of everyday life to provide compositional, textural, and spatial contrasts.
