Flight packets given to passengers in the 1940s and 1950s consisted of various passenger information and amenities including postcards, luggage tags, route maps, and informational materials on aircraft and aviation procedures. Inside this 1948 flight packet from United Air Lines is a route map advertising: "3 types of mainliners 3 patterns of flight 1 standard of service To offer the fastest, most frequent and most comfortable transportation possible, United flies three types of mainliners on as many carefully planned flight patterns – long-haul coast-to-coast service, intercity flights between key cities, and segmented patterns giving frequent service to smaller cities. But on all United flights you'll enjoy “service in the Mainliner manner’ – tops in air transportation. " Image: United Air Lines flight information packet, Douglas DC-6, 1948.
