George Petty became famous as a pinup artist in the 1930s and 40s. He also sketched a TWA hostess dressed in the winter blue uniform introduced in 1938, giving the uniform the nickname “Petty Girl.” The uniform was first worn in 1938 at the opening of New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
