In 1929, the German airship, LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin completed an ambitious, 21-day, round-the-world trip in sponsored by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. On its Tokyo to Los Angeles leg, the Graf Zeppelin flew over San Francisco, completing the first non-stop transpacific air crossing. Image: Graf Zeppelin, 1929.
