What did people eat on aircraft in the early days of aviation? Box lunches of fried chicken and apples were handed to passengers as they boarded or were distributed in flight by the co-pilot before the hiring of stewards and stewardesses. With the introduction of the Douglas DC-3 in 1936 came one of the first airliners designed with a galley to handle onboard food preparation, which allowed for more elaborate meals.
