Radio shows delighted and captivated listeners during the golden age of broadcasting. During the 1940s, Fibber McGee and Molly was the top-rated radio show in the United States. A sitcom based on a bumbling husband and his endearing wife, Fibber McGee and Molly ran from 1935 to 1956 and featured one of radio’s most famous sound gags—an overcrowded hallway closet that was reproduced by sending objects down a sound-engineer’s staircase.
