Ladybird beetles, also known as ladybugs, all belong to the beetle family Coccinellidae. Ladybugs come in a variety of colors and sizes. Brightly colored species (like orange and black) are toxic—they exude a small, yellow drop of hemolymph (insect blood) from their leg joints that tastes bad to predators, such as birds and lizards, who can see color. See “The Intriguing World of Insects” on display, pre-security, in the International Terminal. http://bit.ly/IntriguingInsects This image was posted on May 14, 2019.
