SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System), the flag carrier for Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, was founded in 1951 after a merger of airlines from each country, Det Danske Luftfartselskab A/S (DDL), Det Norske Luftfartselskap A/S (DNL), and Svensk Interkontinetal Lufttrafik AB (SILA).
