Shaped by decades of creating posters and sets for the stage and movies, Mark von Arenburg’s airline poster painting style evoked a similar drama and allure to his previous work in the entertainment industry. Von Arenburg created this dramatic, stage-like Australia and New Zealand poster featuring Sydney Harbour in the 1940s. It features many of the recognizable attractions of the New South Wales region, including a kookaburra sitting in a gum (eucalyptus) tree, inspired by the popular 1934 song, and an endearing koala with its baby. Pan American’s latest Boeing 377 Stratocruiser airliner flies overhead. The Aviation Museum and Library is located pre-security, in the International Terminal. https://bit.ly/AirwaysArtists 📸: poster: Pan American World Airways, Australia and New Zealand; c. 1950 Gift of the Pan Am Historical Foundation 2014.039.002 https://bit.ly/4cZ3vja This image was posted on July 15, 2024.
