In 1972, United Airlines celebrated twenty-five years of service to Hawai’i and rebranded its Hawaiian service as “Royal Hawaiian.” The service included premium drinks on floral-pattern napkins and gourmet meals. United’s flight attendants wore brightly colored, full-length Hawaiian-style dresses, or mu’umu’u, and matching shirts were worn by the male flight attendants.
