#Onthisday in 1936, the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge opened to the public. The older western section is named after former San Francisco Mayor and California State Assembly Speaker Willie L. Brown Jr. The newer, eastern section of the bridge has the distinction of holding the Guinness World Record for the widest bridge, at 258.33 ft wide. Have you ever driven across the Bay Bridge?
