Mid-1960s airline fashion showcased bright and colorful, patterned fabrics for the first time in the industry. In 1967, Starflite Uniforms created an ensemble patterned in bold stripes for Northwest Orient Airlines. Worn as a summer uniform until 1971, it was nicknamed “The Caterpillar” by flight crew and included a striped trapper hat with green side flaps.
