In the postwar era, the Coast Guard Station next to SFO was again placed under the Treasury Department and Air Station San Francisco updated its aging aircraft. Much of its fixed-wing fleet was replaced with helicopters beginning in 1947 with a Sikorsky HO3S Dragonfly. The "United States Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco: Honoring the Guardians of the Golden Gate 75th" exhibition of photography is on display pre-security, in the Aviation Museum and Library in the International Terminal. The Aviation Museum and Library is open from Sunday through Friday, 10am to 4:30pm. If you can’t make it to the museum, check out our online exhibition at: http://ow.ly/X1WEZ Sikorsky HO3S-1G Dragonfly helicopter prepares for takeoff at the Presidio of San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge in background 1951 SFO Museum Collection Gift of United States Coast Guard, Air Station San Francisco 2014.114.009 This image was posted on January 17, 2016.
