Britain's former international flag carrier airline, British Overseas Airways Corporation, or BOAC, was founded by an Act of the British Parliament #onthisday in 1939. The company was created as a merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd. In 1974, BOAC merged with British European Airways (BEA) and the company was called British Airways, Britain’s current flag carrier.
