Airlines invested considerable care and attention in making calendars that were visually stunning examples of graphic design. Such calendars promised rapid, comfortable travel to cities worldwide with scenes of the airline’s exciting destinations. Some, like the Trans World Airlines calendars, carefully placed the company’s aircraft in the scene, like this Lockheed Constellation over the Rhine River in Germany in this 1952 calendar. See more gorgeously illustrated calendars in "The #YearsFlyBy: Airline Calendars from the Collection" on display, pre-security, in the Aviation Museum and Library. http://bit.ly/YearsFlyBy Image: Trans World Airlines (TWA) wall calendar, 1951, Gift of Captain Jon Simmonds. 2014.156.49.
