While the world watched in amazement as Apollo astronauts took their first steps on the moon, the revolutionary Boeing 747 jumbojet was on the eve of its introduction. Viewed as another technological marvel of the space age, Pan American World Airways commissioned renowned psychedelic artist Peter Max to create a promotional poster that showed the aircraft taking off through rainbow rays of the solar system.
