The first Airbus A380, the world's largest commercial passenger jet, took off on its maiden flight #onthisday in 2005. Service to SFO started on May 9, 2011, by Lufthansa. The double-decker aircraft has a wingspan of 261 feet (78 meters) and a maximum seating capacity of up to 868 passengers.
