Calling the Earth to Witness: Eight Centuries of Buddhist Images from Southeast Asia See all the exhibitions.

This nonaviation exhibition was on display between March 2008 and September 2008 in the A-02 International South Cases gallery, located in International Terminal

"Calling the Earth to Witness: Eight Centuries of Buddhist Imagery from Southeast Asia" features images of the Buddha rendered in bronze, wood, and stone. The Buddhas depict the canonically prescribed positions and hand gestures intended as reminders of Buddhist doctrine. More than forty diverse images reflect the distinctive and influential styles produced by each host culture, including the Khmer Empire, whose rule extended throughout most of Southeast Asia from the tenth to the thirteenth centuries, and successive kingdoms in Thailand, Laos, and Burma.
