This exhibition explores the sea through art and artifact. Mermaids have been depicted in poems, drawings, and sculpture since ancient times. The mermaid is said to be inspired by the manatee (Trichechus mamatus) which belongs to the order Sirenai, names for the sirens or mermaids.
