Sculpted Gardens: Rice Fields of Southeast Asia See all the exhibitions.

This photography exhibition was on display between March 2006 and July 2006 in the B-03 Gate 36 gallery, located in Terminal 1

For millennia, lowland rice plains, mountain valleys and spring-fed highland slopes have provided fertile soil for rice farming. Sculpted highland terraces, watered upland valleys, and vast alluvial plains have supported tribal culture, peasant cultivators, and great civilizations. Anthropologist and photographer Eric Crystal has documented traditional Southeast Asian cultures for four decades. His images allow us to witness the arresting beauty surrounding the sacred ritual of harvesting rice in parts of Southeast Asia.
