#PeterVoulkos (1924–2002) was at the leading edge of a revolution in American ceramics. In 1954, Voulkos was hired to form a ceramics department at the Otis Art Institute in LA, where he employed traditional techniques and experimented with more abstract forms. #CaliforniaCrafts

With assistance from Stefan Stefko in 1985, the form for “IGS II” was blown using a large, wooden mold. As with other works produced by #MarvinLipofsky overseas, “IGS II” was cut, ground, sandblasted, and finished at his studio in Berkeley. #CaliforniaCrafts

#MarvinLipofsky’s formed and stretched, blown-glass sculpture merged studio #glass with fine art. On many of his pieces, #Lipofsky employed flocking and etching to conceal the reflection of the glass and accentuate its form. #CaliforniaCrafts
