@Carmard @IATA @flySFO Great question! SF was given an 'O', because that worked nicely for the ‘o’ in Francisco. The end letters do not actually stand for anything, but were given to airports with an attempt to match or approximate them to something recognizable. We hope this answers your question!

@HeavyFairing @flySFO It is, indeed, long gone. It was situated just off of the Old Bayshore Highway, in an area that's now part of the airfield.
