The first flight of the Boeing Model 247 took place #onthisday in 1933. In the early 1930s, Boeing developed a remarkable airplane that revolutionized air travel. This streamlined, twin-engine transport featured all-metal, semi-monocoque construction, retractable landing gear, and seating for ten passengers. Considered the first modern airliner, the Boeing 247 had a maximum speed of 200 mph, faster than the U.S. Army Air Corps’ fighter aircraft of the time.
