On January 25, 1929, Panagra (Pan American-Grace Airways Inc.) was formed as a joint venture between W. R. Grace & Co., a shipping company, and Pan American Airways. Each held half of the new airline's stock. From the 1930s to the 1960s, Panagra served many countries in South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina.
