Masks are ubiquitous throughout the world and are one of the most ancient means of transforming one’s identity. Numerous societies have used masks to serve a variety of functions. Masks and masquerades tell us many things about the people who make and wear them. Masquerade performances entertain, inspire awe, laughter, fear, excitement, and teach moral lessons. The masks on display in this exhibition span the globe and include North, Central and South America, Oceania, Europe and Asia
