Shadow Puppets of Java and Bali See all the exhibitions.

This nonaviation exhibition was on display between September 2002 and June 2003 in the D-01 Central North Connector gallery, located in Terminal 2

The exhibition includes shadow puppets of various types used frequently in Java and Bali, including kings, princesses, clowns, dragons, demons, and heroes from the "Mahabharata" or the "Ramayana," while related topics, such as the "dalang" (puppeteer), the stage set, puppet making, and some everyday uses of "wayang" characters are explored via photographs and videotape. The "dalang," the puppets, and the plays themselves, along with musicians and singers, constitute one of the most culturally significant dramatic traditions found anywhere in the world.
