Setting Sail See all the exhibitions.

This photography exhibition was on display between August 2001 and November 2001 in the B-03 Gate 36 gallery, located in Terminal 1

The Master Mariners' Regatta was the oldest sailing event in the west and was an important part of early San Francisco marine history. Sailing races from 1867 on were prime attractions, capturing the imagination. Small yacht owners countered by organizing the first annual small boat competition, which later became known as the Mosquito Race, in 1881 and the Corinthian Regatta in 1886. Participants in such races appear in these photographs.
